Frequently Asked Questions

Please email us here if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We keep our kittens until they are at least 4 months or 16 weeks of age. Why so long? We understand you are very excited to meet your new kitty, but we have to ensure they are fully prepared to take on the world. Here are some reasons why.

  • Weaning- kittens start weaning around 4 weeks old, but they will continue to require their mothers milk sometimes up to 12 weeks of age. Weaning the kittens too early can cause aggression and anxiety.

  • Learning- Kittens also need this valuable time to learn from their mom and litter mates so they can be happy members of your family. They learn how to properly groom themselves, play, hunt and love (OK maybe they are born wanting to love).

  • Socialization- We ensure all kittens are safely socialized with small children, new cats, dogs, and strange people as much as we can to ensure they will fit right in their new home. If you remove a kitten from its family too soon, its likely it could become timid or skiddish.

  • Medical- We conduct several steps here on our kittens to ensure they are healthy. This includes Veterinarian checkups, vaccines, DNA testing (to test for genetic issues that the breed is more prone to). We also spay and neuter all kittens going to new pet homes prior to them leaving our cattery. We get it done two weeks before sending them home with you.

Don't worry! We will continue to post regular updates on all our litters so you can watch them grow and thrive.

Yes and no.

  • Rabies - Your kitten will receive their first rabies (Purevax) shot shortly before they go home with you. This will be good for 1 year and we recommend Titer testing after that.

  • PUREVAX Feline 3 RCP- For prevention of disease due to feline rhinotracheitis, calici, and panleukopenia viruses.

  • Please perform a Titer test prior to revaccination.

  • We do not administer nor advise using bordetella vaccines.

  • We require that you visit your vet back home within 5 days of receiving your kitten. That way they can start to build a good relationship with the vet and the vet is able to advise on future care.

Yes! All of our litters are registered with

  • CFA (Cat Fanciers Association) under Salmon Creek Cattery

  • LCWW (Loving Cats World Wide) as Silver Salmon Cattery. We teamed up with Silver Born for LCWW to get the best of both worlds.

We will provide you with a blue slip so that you may pick the name of your kitten and you're not stuck with whatever goofy stuff we came up with. We will help you register your cat!

Unfortunately this answer, much like our cats, is not just black and white. We do keep it transparent though! Here are some factors we consider.

  1. Age- Not all of our cats leave at 16 weeks. Sometimes we retire a cat from the breeding program to relax in the pet life. Or perhaps a sale may fall through and we will have to find a new, suitable home which may take some time.
  2. Gender- Males are $100 less due to difference in price of alteration.
  3. If the cat is intact (not spayed or neutered) the majority of our cats are forever homeward bound to carry their lives out as spoiled pets. However, in special situations we may sell an in tact cat to another outstanding breeder. Keeping new lines in the catteries are key to the breeds healthy survival.

We have a few options available to you. We'll start with the most effective measures for the eager beavers out there down to those with just mild curiosity.

  1. Join our wait list here. If you have a preference on male or female or color/ coat pattern you can request that as well.
  2.  Sign up to receive email notifications on plans for upcoming litters here. Sometimes because of our wait list, our entire litter may be already reserved even before conception.
  3. Check with Silver Born Cattery here. Silver Born still has an occasional litter when time allows, we will also have them listed on our website.
  4. Keep checking back with us. We will continue to update our social media (Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, and YouTube) as well as our website. If we have any available kittens, it will be posted.
